These are a few glimpses picked out of my series of photos
from the (now) Danish island Bornholm;
with peaceful nature, street views and old buildings.
The medieval fortress of Hammershus, constructed with grey and red stones,
was later an isolated state prison during the 1600s.
Here and there I saw half timbered farm houses,
a couple of them having roofs covered in the old way, with reefs.
The very special white round shaped churches are medieval, as well,
they are very beautiful constructions in it's environment,
assumed to have been fortified during earlier centuries.
The church roofs are covered with tiles of wood.
There were possibilities to climb a couple of steps up,
to enter the insides of the upper church walls
I was tempted (unfortunately not enough) to enter there -
those steps looked to risky, both steep and narrow to me...
One of the churches had some fabulous and fascinating medieval
mural paintings with monsters and hell -
the paintings must have been quite impressive
and frightning to the parishioners.
Some of the small, naked men that are lined up to encounter the monster,
does in fact have crowns on their heads!
